Dáire Connolly
What did you want to do as a kid growing up?
I was always passionate with art in school and would spend hours on end in the evening sketching. Funnily I had applied to do a portfolio course on my CAO form and ended up doing Quantity Surveying in the end.
What’s the worst job you’ve ever had?
Footing turf on the bog. The work was tough but I had a good group of mates and was my first summer job so I still have good memories from it.
What is your role MA?
I'm a Manager working on the Technology team covering permanent roles. Most of my time is spent in Data and UX Design roles at the moment
What’s your favourite thing about working at MA?
The people, I know that can be cliche but everyone here are genuinely friendly and want to help each other out. It just makes the days easier and more enjoyable when there is a positive vibe within the business. We look to solve problems with a positive outlook irrespective of the situation. I was also doing a 4-hour commute each day so remote working has been a blessing!
Would you recommend MA to friends/colleagues? Why?
100% it's a fantastic place to work and develop your career. We have really strong relationships with our customers and always put them first. In turn, you will learn the power this has and it makes the day job easier. Management also put trust in everyone to give them autonomy and give support when needed but you have nobody breathing down your neck and can get on with the day job without the politics
Can you recommend any habits that have helped your professional life?
Structure and a well-thought-out daily/weekly plan. Organisation is key to success in recruitment and couple that with efficient hard work and success will be guaranteed.
What is something you think everyone should do at least once in their lives?
Go travelling, I've done plenty over the past few years across North & South America, Asia, and Cuba. I've found it really helps in building up relationships in this industry too. The technology industry in Ireland is so culturally diverse and it's great to bring up old memories and stories from someone else's home country.
What is the best advice you have ever received?
Don't get consumed by work it's vital to have a work-life balance and with our flexible hours and half-day Friday it really helps to work around your own schedule.
What advice would you give to your younger self?
Back yourself! Recruitment can have plenty of ups and downs along your career but its important to stay positive and look at the bigger picture of what you have achieved if you stumble along the way. Hard work and determination breaths success.
What's your biggest achievement?
I've just welcomed my baby daughter into the world and hands down it's the greatest feeling in the world. I'd have to rank that as my top achievement.
What skills do you think are essential to have to be a recruiter?
Hard work, organisation, along with determination & focus

The responses were insightful, with 47% of participants suggesting that 3-5 years is the optimal timeframe ⏳ Interestingly, 27% felt that 1-2 years is sufficient, reflecting the dynamic nature of the industry.

Great news from TechIreland! Irish tech start-ups raised nearly €400M in Q2 2024, the best performance since Q2 2022. This is a huge jump from €169M in Q1 and surpasses the €323M raised in the same period last year. In total, €552M was secured by 147 companies in the first half of 2024 🚀
Key highlights:
💡 Series B rounds saw €275M raised by six companies.
💡 Record-breaking growth rounds with major deals for SyOx Therapeutics (€70.3M), Accounts IQ (€60M), GridBeyond (€52 million), Tines (€45 million), and XOcean (€45 million).
💡 Dublin-based companies led with 67% of the total funding.

Ireland's Pharma and Medical industry has bounced back in recent months with a 21% increase in exports this May compared to last year. Major players like Boston Scientific and Thermo Fisher are raising their profit forecasts, due to the growing demand for heart devices and non-urgent surgeries that were postponed during the pandemic 👩🏻⚕️
Boston Scientific announced last year that it would create 400 new jobs in Clonmel and invest €80m in expanding its manufacturing and R&D capabilities. Meanwhile, Thermo Fisher Scientific reported better-than-expected Q2 profits, bolstered by demand for its clinical trial tools and services 📈

Great news for Beckman Coulter Diagnostics, the largest employer in East Clare and among the largest in the county, with their announcement of a €10 million investment that underscores their commitment to innovation and growth in the region 👏🏼
The investment will enhance Beckman Coulter’s world-class diagnostics production with the addition of two new fully automated reagent filling lines and upgrades to the site’s infrastructure, boosting both efficiency and capacity.
Beckman Coulter’s economic contribution is highly significant to East Clare and the wider Mid-West region thanks to the 550 plus jobs it provides in its facility. Employment at the site is anticipated to rise to 600 jobs, with headcount figures having almost doubled since 2018 📈

This rebound in Pharma activity is very encouraging given the concerns of a slump last year due to a collapse in demand for Covid vaccines and medications – triggering a downturn in Irish Pharma exports.
