Working in Construction: Andrea Field

As Mason Alexander’s construction sister company COEN Recruitment continues to grow, we sat down with our Associate Consultant Andrea to discuss her background, her role within COEN and what the market is like at the moment.

Where are you from?

I grew up in Dublin but I am currently living in Kildare.

What do you do at COEN?

I am an Associate Consultant at COEN Recruitment. I focus on the candidate experience throughout the recruitment process, ensuring it’s of the highest standard.

What did you want to do as a kid growing up?

A hairdresser – a short lived dream. Down to the fact I was allergic to the colour.

What job would you be really bad at?

I would be terrible at reflexology. I hate feet!

Where were you 10 years ago?

Ten years ago I was sitting doing my Leaving Cert. I was like a bag of nerves!

What attracted you to COEN?

I saw a great opportunity in COEN Recruitment with Ciaran to tackle the construction industry.

What’s the best way to start the day?

A good coffee to wake me up.

Any tips for people looking for a new job?

Take your time, speak to as many people as possible to get a fully rounded view of the market and where the opportunities are. Decide on a recruitment consultant to solely represent you, give them as much information as possible on what your needs are, let them take it from there and have regular catch up calls with them.

What is your market like at the moment?

I’ve only been working in the construction market for a number of weeks now. It’s an extremely busy one by all accounts with a huge shortage of candidates and some really fantastic openings for anyone coming into the market.

Do you see any trends in your market?

A lot of companies seem to be putting emphasis on growing out their BIM teams as the industry digitalizes.

What’s one thing that’s coming up in 2019 that you’re excited about?

My new role in COEN Recruitment. I am extremely excited to start this journey with Ciaran to tackle the construction market. I feel things are on the up and it’s a great time to grow in this industry and help companies with challenges faced by the skill shortages.

Who inspires you?

My sister. She an unbelievable woman. Even though as children I may have said different!

What advice would you give to your younger self?

Life is like a deck of cards. Only you can turn a bad hand into a good hand. Keep positive, everything happens for a reason.
