Q&A with Lucy Fitzgerald
Can you tell us a little about your background?
I studied Law & French in UL and moved to Australia after graduating- quickly hooked on the sunny Sydney lifestyle I stayed for just over 3 years. Knowing early on I didn’t want to practice law, I worked in a global legal search firm, and moved home in 2016 and started with Mason Alexander as an Executive Researcher. The high-level search side of recruitment is what I really enjoy and working in such a people- focused industry.
What does a typical day at Mason Alexander look like for you?
No day is ever the same, generally very busy which is good! The day varies depending on the roles you are working on, and what stage they’re at. In a typical day you would be reviewing CVs that have come in overnight, speaking to candidates and assessing their suitability for the role they have applied for, sourcing candidates, meeting candidates both in and outside the office, meeting clients, prepping candidates for interviews- the list goes on! The best part of the job is all the people you get to meet on a daily basis, and that you’re never tied to a desk. We are really encouraged to get out and about and meet people, from candidates, clients or attending a range of events.
Favourite Mason Alexander tradition?
Friday 4.30pm beers in the office!
What would you say is the best thing about working in Mason Alexander?
There are lots of great things about Mason Alexander. The autonomy you are given would be one. Each desk is run as its own business, so really you are totally in charge of how successful you are in this job. Micro managing isn’t something that’s done here, and I think that makes people work harder. There is always a great atmosphere in the office, and we have a really sociable, fun and ambitious team.
Ideal CV – one page or two?
Keep it to the point and relevant to the role you’re applying for, never more than three pages.
What is your top tip to success?
Work hard and always wear a smile.
Would you recommend Mason Alexander to friends/colleagues? Why?
Absolutely. Mason Alexander prides itself on being a market leader and each consultant in here has established a name in the industry, and really understands the area they recruit in. I think people generally enjoy working with Mason Alexander, as the people who work here enjoy what they do and can provide first- class career advice, whether it’s on a particular role, company or the market in general.
